Meet Matt

Matt-rimony started with a wedding that was already legal. Friends of mine had married at the courthouse during COVID, but still wanted to celebrate with the people they loved. They asked me to lead the ceremony. At the end, I pronounced them married “by the power vested in me by absolutely no one.”

Then my best friend’s youngest brother asked me to lead the Jewish portion of his multicultural wedding. When another friend asked me to officiate the legal ceremony I got ordained through American Marriage Ministries and decided to turn this into something. The name Matt-rimony came easily.

Why I do this

I love bringing people together to celebrate a relationship. Standing with a couple, looking out at the people who have loved and supported them, and helping everyone share that moment feels like one of the best contributions I can make.

I’m also in a multicultural marriage, so I know firsthand that bringing traditions together can take thought and care. There may be different hopes around a wedding, and there isn’t always an obvious script for honoring them. I like helping couples find what feels right for them.

What it’s like to work with me

I’m an officiant, not clergy. I work with couples planning Jewish, interfaith, multicultural, secular, and other personal ceremonies. I get to know you, listen to how you talk about each other, and bring those details into a ceremony that feels natural to you.

You don’t need to have your ceremony figured out before we talk. A lot of couples know what they don’t want long before they can describe what they do. That’s a perfectly good place to start.
